We judge books by their covers all the time. We also judge people based on a variety of factors like size, age and color that tell us remarkably little about the person inside.

“A book by its cover” is a wonderful example of appearances for good or ill. Book covers also have titles on them – to carry the analogy a step further – which can provoke interest – or mistakenly prompt an assumption about the contents.
