Close to Prayer

“I don’t know whether I believe in God or not. I think, really, I’m some kind of a Buddhist. But the essential thing is to put oneself in a frame of mind which is close to that of prayer.”
―Henri Matisse

What do you do to put yourself in a frame of mind that is close to prayer?

I am a UU-Pagan/Kinkster, who works Chaos magics (Sigil & Portal);as well as being an empathic-shamanic healer. As well I am UU in my Philosophy and Theology; so I stay extremely open and inclusive, as much as possible. Every thought, word, and deed, is an act of prayers – for me ….. positive and negative energies. So I tend to always be in an open frame of mind, for prayer.

  2. I respond to nature with awe and wonder. For me, that is “close to prayer.” Nature speaks to me in the glory of a full moon, and even in the devastation of a hurricane. I may respond with gratitude, or with questions such as, “how can I make the most of life with my chronic illness?” I often seek answers by observing nature (through science). So Mother Nature and I are in reverent conversation.

  3. Through music, both listening and performing. It has transformative and healing energy and always provides me with a safe sanctuary from storms of daily life. My mother said, even as a small baby in the crib, I sang myself to sleep at night. That vibe has carried on throughout my life and it’s where I can still most easily find my center, which for me, is closer to reverence and prayer.
