Sunflowers are at their most beautiful as they turn their great gold heads toward the sun. But after their petals have withered and their leaves dropped away is when they provide food for the birds, and the basis for a new generation of sunflowers.
What in your life has borne fruit after your hopes for it had faded away?
My own body! Having a baby later in life than I expected to, after I thought that was probably not in the cards for me — well I’m still often amazed that this has all actually somehow happened.
As a young adult , all my career plans withered along with my body. My ability to keep a regular job died because of chronic illness. Occasionally, though, my unemployment has made possible life enriching volunteer opportunities. My original plans may have faded away, but my ability to be useful remains.
