“There are bees in every hive with inherent imperfections: they cannot navigate from the directions given by others. They fly off everywhere. They are always getting lost. They never gather much pollen. Yet, by an incongruous twist of fate, these bees can still dance directions to others. And so they occasionally return from their misguided wanderings with delirious gospel of what they have found. Good god, what they have found! It is the lost bee who finds new flowers.” –Jack Haas
What have you found by getting lost?
My friend & I had an appointment to meet a real estate agent in another town when we got very lost and found another real estate office in Cliffside Park, NJ. The agent in that office took us to an apartment that was on the second floor of a building on Anderson Avenue (the main street, where the bus runs) next to the laundry mat, across the street from a pizza parlor. It was a two bedroom with a large kitchen and a small living room for $725 a month (unheard of even then for Bergen County.) I stayed in that apartment for 8 years (including my first two years of marriage, my friend had moved out a year before.) People always get lost in NJ. The signage is the worst in the US. If you are planning to live here, better have GPS.
Nice story Eric. I’m not superstitious but sometimes things seem like they are meant to be. This sounds like one of those times.
