Cambodian Bananas

CambodianBananasDid you think that bananas were long and yellow? So much of the world is beyond our experience, and so beyond our comprehension, or even our imagination.

What will you do today to broaden what you know of the world?

  1. I am flooded with information about the world thanks to technology. It’s sometimes difficult to recognize the important items due to the volume. One of my favorite and most reliable sources is podcasts. I listen to them in the car and at the gym. The variety of subject matter is almost infinite; science, politics, current events, TED Talks, history and lots of UU services.

One of my new favorites is “NPR Intelligence Squared”. It’s Oxford style debating on a variety of current topics by a panel of experts. The latest was a debate if we should allow for genetically modified embryos. Both sides had compelling arguments. At the end of the debate the audience votes to determine the winner. I won’t spoil it by telling which side won, but I will say it was a close contest. If you haven’t tried podcast yet, I suggest you do. They have become my favorite medium of entertainment due to the variety, excellent content and accessibility.
