Someone Else’s Shoes

SomeoneElse'sShoesWe’ve all been warned not to judge a person until we’ve walked a mile in their shoes. It’s a good reminder to have empathy for others who may be managing hardships we’ve never imagined. It’s also possible that their shoes are utterly fabulous, of a shape and color that we never would have thought to try.

What have you learned to delight in by trying it someone else’s way?

  1. In the 70’s I was fortunate to be in a band that recorded an album (33 1/3 rpm vynil lp) of original music. It sold a few thousand copies locally and one day, as I was driving my car, I heard myself playing music on the radio. I almost wrecked the car when I realized it was me. This was decades before digital technology would level the playing feild for recording and distrubutung music, it was still considered an acheivement to get airplay and mass distribution of your work.

Although we never attained national recognition, we were quite popular in the region for a while. Once, while crossing the street with my girlfriend, a guy jumped out of his car and stopped traffic both ways to let us pass safely while he chanted the name of my band. It was so funny and surreal. I’ll never forget it. My 15 seconds of fame walking in the shoes of a rock star. 🙂
