When the angle of the sun is right, sun shines into this cave, illuminating the rock formations and allowing small plants to grow. Sometimes illumination strikes us at improbable times and places, bringing a new perspective and an opportunity for growth.
When have you been surprised by a flash of illumination?
Yarnell, the tiny town where 19 firefighters died in June, is about 20 miles from my town of 6,000. When FEMA refused a second request from the State of Arizona for assistance and I commiserated with two residents of Yarnell, I was stunned that both were happy about the refusal: a man because he hated the government and a woman because she hated the President. Like a bolt out of the blue (and I should have learned it much earlier), I saw that people live in small remote places to avoid anything or anyone that is new or different. My husband and I are so out of place. I love the ones who follow their own drummer and come from and to different places.
