Evergreen

EvergreenOne strategy to last the winter is to shed your leaves, to cut back to the bare minimum so as to make it through the cold months. Another is to grow in such a way that you are shaped to endure, that allows you to stay green regardless of the weather.

What helps you make it through the wintery periods of your life?

  1. Years ago I used to think the healthy things to do was to try and maintain getting out in the community, going to things going on in the evening, even though it was dark and cold.
But I came to the conclusion that that wasn’t helping me. I decided that we are programmed to not want to go out when it’s cold and dark. We are not nocturnal. I feel there is a physiological response to the cold and dark which is similar to say a chipmunk’s hibernation. Go out if you want but don’t push it. You can cozy up in the winter, do art, knit booties, read, and enjoy wintering in until it’s spring. This helps me enjoy the winters when it’s dark and cold. It’s more of a go with the flow approach.
