“Practice is the hardest part of learning, and training is the essence of transformation.”
―Ann Voskamp
What transformation are you creating through training and practice?

With the encouragement of a fellow church member, I have enlisted in a learning-to-play-a-recorder group. However I am the beginner learner and, having been accepted into the group, am being encouraged to advance, if slowly. The problem for me seems to be that I don’t have a “mother” present to encourage me to practice a little each day. Although I enjoy the little advances I make, I know that without self discipline I will not improve. It takes will power to discipline oneself .
I practiced far more (both in quantity and quality) when I didn’t have external pressure – when I played simply because I adore music and not because I had to or in order to impress anyone. It seems like other people have a different experience…
I had surgery on my right hand a few days ago. I’m slowly building up range of motion through practicing those moves. Once the wound has healed more, I will work on regaining strength. Eventually I hope to get back to practicing in a more traditional sense, but nerves heal slowly – it will most likely take many months before I regain enough sensation to even try to play.
Martin, glad to hear that your surgery is over and hope that eventually you will be a producer of music again.
