Triumph

On horseWe have all known that moment of elation when we manage something brilliant and precarious. We have also all known the squint-eyed patience of being the one who holds up the person who gets all the admiration for their fancy tricks.

What does success look like for you today?

  1. Successes are sometimes difficult to define. Public recognition is apparent and usually accepted, most of the time with grace. There are times when the receiver is embarrassed for one reason or another or disagrees with the award and refuses to accept the recognition. Another form of success is much more personal and may never be shared with others; if one sets a goal that is then achieved or has overcome a personal problem that seemed impossible to resolve, it may be a preference that the success be one of privacy. Today I live with both kinds: comments from members of the fellowship which compliment me on the Sunday morning music are always appreciated (even if I hit the wrong notes sometimes) but problems connected to personal relationships in my life currently cause me to think them through, resolve them as best as I can and not acknowledge them in a public way.

  2. On the day this was posted, success was taking a bath – having to keep my right hand dry and elevated above my heart made doing so difficult (especially since I’m right-handed), but I did it. I felt so much better afterwards, both due to feeling cleaner and to feeling victorious.
