A Creative Force

Cut tree“As my sufferings mounted I soon realized that there were two ways in which I could respond to my situation—either to react with bitterness or seek to transform the suffering into a creative force. I decided to follow the latter course.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.

How have you transformed suffering into a creative force?

  1. When my grandfather died, I improvised on the flute to express and process my grief. I have also written poems and drawn to express and process emotional suffering.

  2. I have written poems too when a tragedy strikes. I’m not a trained poet but I just express what I feel in some sort of why I call a poetic format. After 9/11, as the skies were so silent over our city when all flights were stopped for those days afterward and there was the tremendous sense of strangeness and sadness, I wrote a poem about that event.
