Riding a swing gives you the primal rush of flying as the swing heads up…up…up. Of course, you know that any moment you will reach the top of the arc and head down again. But you also know that it is the momentum of the downward swing that pushes you up once more, if only you lean your weight into it.
Where on the pendulum of up and down does your life feel at the moment?
The swing of my pendulum is very small right now, barely perceptible, but still swinging.
Swinging up, swinging down, I can see all over the town!
Used to sing this to kindergarteners. Yes, the momentum of life is like that. As in earlier D-Compasses, it depends not only on one’s personality but also on what goes on around a person. Right now for me, it is a filled, but exciting time. A young Nigerian chemist is here, looking for work and perhaps to give his heart to the USA. He was born here when his parents were students. Raised in Nigeria, and with an additional Master’s from an Indian University, he has qualifications that are good; however, our economy, our style of granting research awards, our way of hiring people through online application without personal contact until much later in the process…all make for a confusing time for him and for me. Motto: don’t give up; keep searching for the right job for the right person!
