“The most important thing to remember is this:
To be ready at any moment to give up what you are for what you might become.”
–W. E. B. Du Bois
What have you given up to become something new?
One thought on “What You Might Become”
I’ve given up two Thursday evenings a month to support a group of people in my community who want to learn more or some Spanish even though they aren’t interested or able to sign up for a regular class. I end up teaching some of it pretty often. The things is that I speak Spanish but not always grammatically. Some in the group seem to want to learn grammar and speak correctly. I’m not a perfectionist so I just stumble along, but having lived in Arequipa, Peru, as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years, I learned that even with mistakes I could communicate with people there and we could be friends and co-workers.I think it’s worth it to “do what you can” instead of getting hung up on correctness all the time.
