Waiting

man on street - gratisography creative commonsIt’s so easy to fill those moments of waiting—for a friend to arrive, for the doctor to call you in, for your turn in line at the grocery—with texting or Facebook or email, with something trivial to fill in the gaps. But sometimes it’s worth just waiting. Seeing what’s around you. Allowing things to happen at their own speed and simply noticing as they occur.

What’s the most interesting thing that has happened to you while you were waiting?

  1. Waiting is a game for me! There’s a song that proves this, I believe. I enjoy people-watching which, of course, leaves many unanswered questions. Why are they dressed that way? Where are they headed? Who is this person waiting for? Oh, there he is!! I enjoy looking at the physique of people too; so often it is tempting to think that all people should come in the same attractive size but that certainly isn’t true. I find myself, somewhat overweight, wondering why some people are obese. I do read the papers about this epidemic but I still wonder about that specific individual. Years ago I had a teenage friend who, although trying everything the doctors advised, was unable to change her body weight. Waiting generally isn’t a problem for me: however, there are the times when another place to be has to wait!
