Usually our image of the water’s edge is either a rugged, rocky shore or a perfect expanse of glistening sand. But usually the footing at the edge of something new is more of a mix—some rocks and some sand, comfort and challenge mixed.
As you look out toward something new, how does the footing beneath you feel?
Looking forward to new things each day , even though some are the rocky type, is the way I like to look at life. The memory of the lure of soft scrunchy sand under my bare feet helps me soften other inconveniences.
However, the new way for me to approach new activities now is slowly and carefully. I’ve always been a slow paced walker but, now, as aging continues, I have discovered that it’s time to walk much slower than before. I have approached the time when people who see me crossing the street slow down (thank goodness). I feel part of another generation and must get used to it. Incidentally, did you know that those of us who are 85 or older are considered by the US Census Bureau as “the OLDEST of the old?
