Hope is a belief that things will get better. And sometimes things do just get better on their own—but mostly change comes because someone cares enough to make things different.
How do you build hope for others?

For those people younger that I am, my way of giving encouragement is two-sided: first, I try to put myself into their own situation since, after all, so much has changed now compared to when I was their age. I, as a college graduate: until then never owning a car; having to search for a responsible job to help support myself; benefitting from having had a stable home life but no good way to cope with information about a societal restricted sex life. Often I had no clear picture of what adulthood would hold for me. So, secondly, after thinking of this, I try hard to consider realistic ways in this current time to encourage them and suggest what alternatives are open for them, Giving them some insight as to what is realistic now along with examples from me that still apply, is my way of showing them hope, plus more opportunities that I couldn’t’ imagine when growing up. Knowing that I was able to solve many of the problems in my life gives them, hope that they can, too.
