Whether someone has done it for you or you did it yourself, it’s much nicer to come home at night to the welcome of a lamp rather than having to poke around in the darkness. Even a little light says “Welcome home. We didn’t forget you.”
How do you offer welcome?
I think that families show their “Welcome Home” by flying our flag when one of their members is serving in the Armed Forces. The daily feeling of missing, wondering and worrying about that family member must be continual., even though there are newer ways to keep in touch than before. That flag lets the ones at home use it as a sign of hope that the one who is absent for a while will eventually come back for their WELCOME HOME,…” FRIEND, HONEY, DAD, MOM, SON, DAUGHTER, GRAND/SON…DAUGHTER.” I join those families in my wish that a joyful and grateful “welcome home” comes to them.
First person to leave the house in the morning turns on the porch light (usually when we walk the dog). Last person home at night turns it off. This way, the porch light shines when any of us get home.
We did change to a light-sensing fixture years ago so that it isn’t actually on when it couldn’t be seen anyway, but this works great for changing light levels from day-to-day.
