Deck the Hall

WreathDeck the hall. Bring the outdoors in, and fill the house with the scent of pine or juniper. Put treasures on display that have been hidden away in boxes or create something new that will add a touch of cheer. Or just light a single candle and bask in its glow.

What holiday traditions make you feel festive?

  1. I have objects I have collected over the seasons and for various holidays and seasons. The one that is most memorable contains the small items that were made for me or brought to me for a “nacimiento ” by the children I knew in Peru during Peace Corps days: a drawn and cut out angel for above the little box scene in the corner, a small star made by hand, a broken but donated Jesus figure, two cups of (then)growing grass for in front, other little pieces that they gave me and some I bought in the market. They helped me arrange it and then during the season, they came to “adorar El Nino” by greeting, singing, preforming ways to greet the nacimiento (dancing the Cha Cha Cha) and then I gave them small candies or coins …all with lots of laughing and fun. Others may have had large corner nacimentos with toys (unused during the year) bought out to place in front of their arrangements but mine was the greatest treasure for me that season. I still have the little worn out pieces stored away, some years brought out in remembrance.
