It’s fun to see giant Christmas trees in glorious displays. But the soul of a Christmas tree , as anyone knows who has watched the Peanuts Christmas Special, is not in its grandeur but in the love that attends it. A small tree can glow quite brightly.
What small thing, done lovingly, brightens your life?
In my kitchen window over the sink, one of the few places that receives enough light to encourage green growth, there is a collection of needy plant sprouts. Almost every morning when I am fixing a meal, I check them out. Are they growing roots? Are the green parts expanding and looking healthy? Are there some leaves that need removal? What about water for them? They vary in age; some have been growing for years in this fashion; others are a new sprout I have found somewhere or have sniped off of another mature plant. They are little pieces of hope for me. Growth means that life is progressing.
