As mist fills the valley, trees lose their edges and slip toward the world of an Impressionist painting, in which nothing is distinct, but everything is lovely.

Actually, as a painter and art in other media forms, I much prefer the less definite and distinguishable style in watercolor painting. I once learned from an instructor that one should always respect and honor the medium. As I apply that to watercolor, I consider that the possibilities with that medium allow for blending: paper, water, paint and brush…so that the relationship of the parts make up the whole and it becomes a combination of soft edges and interesting color blends that would not be part of the painting without that respect for what water, paper, paint, even the painting tool and my courage can produce.
