A Ferris wheel gives you almost no freedom in your ride. You just go around in a big circle. But it turns out you can see amazing things from that big circle—as you can within the limited, but very large, cycles of the seasons and of birth and death.
What circles or cycles do you see yourself moving within?
At present, I am in the cycle of the last stages of publishing a book. Just following the steps the publisher tells me to do, when they say to do them, and how they say to do them. But I see encouraging and exciting happenings at every step. I get a digital proof to review. I approve that and get a printed proof, exciting to hold my book in my hand. Then I approve that and they tell me the steps to take to get them to extrapolate the Kindle version, and I wait to see my book in Kindle, etc. A very regimented, yet rewarding, procedure.
A wonderful Compass thought for today. It occurs to me that surely there is a life cycle with birth and death, some would even say re-birth. But the life cycle has a broad pattern to it as well – dependence as infants; independence as we set out on our own way; then inter-dependence in adult life through marriage and careers and community; independence in retirement, and then dependence again in old age. It all “revolves” around the relationships we have. May we choose wisely!
