Blind Justice

ny state - justice statue - pixabayThe image of Lady Justice is traditionally shown blindfolded, offering impartial equality to all who stand before her. Which seems like a good idea, but what if those who stand before her have not received impartial justice up to that point?

In what situations do you feel justice would be better served not by impartial equality, but by a vision influenced by the circumstances of those who stand before the law?

  1. LOVE is blind, so they say.

    JUSTICE, not so much.

Actually, it could go both ways and work for and against depending on the circumstances.

  2. Presumably it was “Lady Justice” who made the previous determinations which were thought to treat some more fairly than others. The blindfold, thought to make her impartial, actually may have prevented her from seeing the inequities inherent in the issues at hand. It is my understanding that unsighted people often develop acute hearing to compensate. It appears that Lady Justice’s hearing capability has improved, markedly, over time.
