Riddle

sphynx - pixabay cc0In Greek legend, the Sphinx devoured all travelers who could not correctly answer its riddle. The Sphinx may be mythical, but it turns out that in life—whether work or social situations or personal relationships—it is all too common that we are barred from moving on until we obtain some knowledge that seems utterly mysterious.

What bit of knowledge or understanding has allowed you to move forward?

  1. So true. We are all just travelers, pilgrims passing through in this journey of life, and oftentimes the riddles we face in life, those burning questions we have that we don’t understand..will devour us. And we cannot move on in life until we have solve this riddle, until we can make sense of these mysteries…the things we don’t understand. Perhaps the Sphinx is the problem you are facing, and the riddle is the lesson you are to learn..and until you learn it, it will continue to devour you and will prevent you from moving on.

    1. What further interests me is that in the Neverending Story, there was a Great Riddle Gate that had to be passed, and unless you answered the “riddle” correctly, the Sphinx would turn you to stone. Most likely, they probably adopted this idea from the Greek legend.

  2. By and large, I worked with supervisors who were understanding, friendly and complimentary. At the last position I held, I felt that our leader was not understanding of my working situation that I felt obliged me carry through on plans already made; she asked me to do another task that was required before my accomplishing earlier obligations. I compromised as well as I could but it made me uncomfortable. However, later, as I had home care responsibilities, she allowed me to arrange home care using my sick leave which solved the problem. Her understanding in that way let me move forward and have emotional comfort after all.
