Fed by Colors

Nutritionists tell us that it’s healthy to eat fruits and vegetables that are a wide variety of colors. It’s probably also healthy for us to enjoy the pleasure of seeing many colors in flowers, fabrics, paintings and people.

In what ways and places do you get the most pleasure from colors?

  1. Of all of the art elements, I am most responsive to color. Hue (the color), value (the amount of bk or wht added to the basic color) and intensity ( the brightness or dullness of a color by adding the opposite color on the color wheel) are the three basic ways to manipulate a color. Perhaps using a basic color(red) for instance. then adding a lighter value (rose) and including a shade by adding its complement green for a duller part, accomplishes variety in paintings, fashion styles, home décor and in many different ways. I like to manipulate colors and am very conscious of it all the days of my life.
