External experiences to one’s career choices often influence the path one follows. Early on, as an art teacher, I remained interested to this type of work but, later, with experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Arequipa, Peru, I realized that I was more interested and eventually would commit to becoming a youth librarian and led to a position as a youth public library consultant with a MO state agency. The two had some relationship but my final work with young people and librarians who guide them was in the field of encouraging children to benefit from access to our library and media services, which are some of the best in the world.
