The simplest things can make us feel grounded and connected—a hand on the shoulder, a favorite song, the smell of cinnamon, eye contact from someone who looks at us and really sees us. A touch, a smell, and we come back into ourselves and the moment.
What small things help to ground and connect you?
During my retirement years, I have discovered that a phone conversation with someone I know well seems to make me say to myself later “Well, that makes things OK!” Although I do not initiate long conversations myself, when it is a friend who is willing and/or wants to discuss personal as well as national and international conditions, I relish those calls. I feel that the day has been enhanced by the episodes.
