Smell is our most primal sense, the one with the deepest connection to memory. Scents have the power to relax us, revolt us, energize or cheer us. The nose knows.
What scents do you actively seek out?

I am sensitive to fragrances and various other chemicals. Scented lotion will give me a rash. Scented detergents will bother me when I breathe. Scented candles are a no-go. As much as possible, I use fragrance-free products, though I can (usually) use naturally scented products (smells like oranges because it contains oranges, etc.). So, usually, I am avoiding scents and not seeking them out.
What do I “seek out”?
I enjoy the candles I get at the local New Age shop, which are made with essential oils (not synthetic fragrance).
When I go to a home-improvement store, I step in and breathe deeply the smell of lumber and sawdust–my dad is a carpenter, so it’s the smell of a father’s love to me.
When my best friend comes over, I give him a strong hug and I breathe in his scent.
Wow! You are a very alert person who associates good scents with your life.
Since I have been an herbal gardener at various times in my life, I enjoy both fresh and dried fragrances of herbs. They each have a very recognizable scent when one in around them for a while and I learned to identify them, Once I had a small backyard patio area with bricks laid down and among them, I planted herbs that , like chamomile and thyme, release their fragrance when stepped upon. Now I depend on dried herbs and spices to bring a new flavor to an accustomed food so that it is more flavorful to me. I like too to feel the textures and shapes of the leaves and stems in fresh herbs.. Do you know that all members of the mint family have square stems and the best way to remove the leaves is to slide your fingers up the stem so that they come off easily?
