Some years ago, as my mother progressed toward her death, I found myself almost instinctively becoming a knowledgeable caretaker for her. Even though I continued working, and had extra support help as she aged, I was able to accept what was happening and not feel resentment. We had been mutual friends during our lives. This was essentially the first and was almost the only time when I assumed full responsibility for another person. When I look back on that time, I realize that I was doing what I did because of my love for her.
