Wisps of Glory

“Everybody born comes from the Creator trailing wisps of glory. We come from the Creator with creativity. I think that each one of us is born with creativity.” —Maya Angelou

What have you learned about creativity from a small child?

  1. Tons! I was an enthusiastic and, may I say, a superior elementary art consultant for many years because of my training at the University of Kansas under the direction of Maud Ellsworth. I worked both in a small community in Kansas and in a residential area in New Jersey. I definitely support the freedom to give to young children as they develop in learning that their way of creative expression is strictly their own. Using copy patterns for them is definitely a limiting factor in giving a growing child the idea that their own way of expressing themselves in paint, clay, etc. is theirs alone. It is because if this that , if not open to them in early stages, people as adults are led to believe that “I can’t do art”. Posh! Everyone can discover their creativity if they realize that their own version is what counts.
