We spend money on things that bring us health and wholeness, like medicine and music and produce. We also spend money on things that not only drain our resources away from other things but also are flat-out not good for our long-term health and happiness.
What do you spend money on that you suspect would be better spent elsewhere?
Today’s photo is unfortunate. As I am imagining that this service goes to a majority of white UUs, the use of a person of color for a negative post on vice plays into racial bias as well as supports the undercurrent of white supremacy. And if that was the only picture that was available through your photo service, that tells us something, too. Are we woke?
Thanks for mentioning this, Laurie. I had the same thought. We must pay attention. Everything we do speaks louder than what we say.
I agree, Laurie, that it is thoughtless to use that photo and harmful.
As I’ve mentioned in early Daily Compass comments, I have become, probably more strongly in my retirement years, one who likes to add little things to my household that are funny, or pleasing, or gadgetry-like (will it really work?) or on sale well there are multiple reasons to fritter money away on such. In the back of my mind, too far back I fear, is my thought that somewhere in the world someone has much less, is perhaps starving or worse, and that I should donate all of this frittered away money to a cause that can help humanity. Maybe writing this message will be a wake up sign for me….or some kind of compromise which will satisfy both inclinations.
