Sure, there are fancier, faster machines out there, but this aged tractor can still get the job done. While it’s easy to love smart phones and wi-fi and all the latest gadgets, much of the fertility of our lives comes from wisdom handed down to us from people who managed without the benefit of our contemporary marvels.
What bit of wisdom do you cherish from a person who lived in an earlier age?
Just a few weeks, I reconnected with my former Girl Scout leader. We had such a nice phone chat. I told her how I still use some of the things I learned in scouts about how to use simple things we have on hand when necessary. For example, I can use my hand to roughly measure a teaspoon of salt or a cup of shortening. Knots still come in handy. She said how proud it made her to hear this, and I felt happy too.
During my life, as I look back at its path now, I realize that I have moved, traveled and experienced acquaintances with many people and places over the years. My Dad was also of this ilk although it never affected to any extent the stability of our family life. He used to say” A rolling stone doesn’t gather much moss but it sure does get a nice shine!” I live by this thought and value my “shine” that resulted.
