“The great enemy of freedom is the alignment of political power with wealth. This alignment destroys the commonwealth ― that is, the natural wealth of localities and the local economies of household, neighborhood, and community ― and so destroys democracy, of which the commonwealth is the foundation and practical means.”
― Wendell Berry
What do you do to promote the commonwealth of your neighborhood or community?
Wendell Berry is one adult male that I trust and read regularly. I work for Habitat for Humanity, I have a garden and bees, I still build things houses, repair things and give away my experience of building and repairing houses from 45 years plus what I learned from my father, a mason and builder. It is in my blood like farming and language is in Wendell Berry’s blood. I can not take it to my grave.
