Daily Compass returns after a prolonged period necessary for healing. It is a stretch, a reach, a challenge to move forward into the future while staying connected to our daily meditation tradition.
Tell us about a time you’ve returned to something after an absence. How did it feel? What was difficult about it?
Welcome back! So glad that you have had time to refresh, but know that you have been missed. It was such a welcome sight in my inbox this morning. Thank you and be well!
Getting out of my newer social comfort zone and energy levels, connecting with people.
I am about to go on a time of needed rest:)
When the weather stops yard work this year I will return to practicing the piano after more than a year away and surgeries on both wrists. My Masters Degree in piano is more than a little dusty. And I am wondering if my love of making music will survive the tedium of slow practice. But nothing teaches patience and taking one step at a time than playing piano.
I can say the same thing about resuming my Spanish study after a long time away from it. Marie motivated me to start again.
Over the past 17 years I have taken a break from participating in doing theatre work. This summer I was able to go back and be a part of a theatre production. I directed a short play and it was a joy to go back. Engaging my brain to be creative has been a real rewarding experience for me. Work with a collaborative team to tell a story was the most rewarding and filled me with a sense of purpose.
When I return to something, it’s always a surprise. Sometimes it’s like riding a bicycle: like I never stopped. Sometimes I’ve forgotten a lot, and I have to learn it again. Sometimes that’s tedious. Sometimes it’s joyful rediscovery — why did I ever stop? Oh yeah, I had to, but I’m back!
