Over the past few years I have found myself living in remote places and moving around quite a bit. Community is hard to find when living on the road or living rurally. I have been able to feel connected, loved, and held by keeping in touch with friends and family through technology, and I feel so lucky and grateful to have that option. It sometimes feels like communities formed or maintained online are given less value than “in-person” relationships by wider society, and I’ve sometimes had to remind myself that these relationships are just as meaningful as those “in-person,” because they are just as fulfilling and sustaining for me. -Marin Smith (CLF)
What makes you feel grounded, seen, and connected in a virtual community?
En los últimos años me he encontrado viviendo en lugares remotos y mudándome bastante. Es difícil encontrar una comunidad cuando se vive viajando o en una zona rural. He podido sentirme conectado, amado y sostenido al mantenerme en contacto con amigos y familiares a través de la tecnología, y me siento muy afortunado y agradecido de tener esa opción. A veces parece que la sociedad en general le da menos valor a las comunidades formadas o mantenidas por internet, que a las relaciones “en persona”, y a veces he tenido que recordarme a mí mismo que estas relaciones son tan significativas como las relaciones “en persona”, porque para mí son igual de satisfactorias y enriquecedoras. -Marin Smith (CLF)
