Covenants and Promises

We use the language of promise to talk about covenant, but in reality they are subtly different from one another. CLF Learning Fellow Donté Hilliard asks us, “How do you understand the difference between covenant and a promise?”

  1. I view a covenant as the things or ways of being we aspire to, our ideals from our bests selves. Therefore, a covenant is fluid and can be changed, as needed.
I view a promise as more finite, something we are working toward making happen and it may be set aside, once fulfilled or changed, or if no long relevant, dismissed.
