Roots Intertwined

Each bush and trees stands just a bit apart from the others, claiming its own space, its own right to the sun. But underground all the roots intertwine, and every plant walks the earth’s dark corridors with its fingers interlaced with those of another.

Ghandi in Ireland

In this Irish monument, Gandhi crouches by the words of William Butler Yeats:

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

What precious dreams do you offer up to the world?

A Different World

Imagine stepping out into an environment unlike anything you’ve ever seen, where danger is ever-present and even the weight of your own body is unfamiliar. Sukkot

For Sukkot, the Festival of Booths, Jews build a flimsy structure that is permeable enough to the outside that you can see the stars through the roof. Throughout the eight-day holiday the faithful eat, hang out, or even sleep in this fragile, leafy hut.

This week, how will you allow yourself to be open and vulnerable to the world around you?
